March is also Food Month, an opportunity to focus on how nutrition influences health. What we eat impacts everything from our energy levels to our risk for chronic diseases. Food justice is key.

For too many communities, access to nutritious, affordable food is a challenge:

  • Food deserts limit access to fresh produce, especially in low-income or rural areas.

  • Cultural food practices often clash with the dominant Western diet paradigm, but they can offer incredible healing potential.

Key Nutrition Tips:

  • Eat the rainbow: Include a variety of fruits and vegetables in your meals for essential vitamins and antioxidants.

  • Whole grains and legumes: These are fiber-rich and can help manage weight, blood sugar, and heart health.

  • Limit processed foods: Reduce intake of sugary, salty, and highly processed items for better gut and heart health.

Your LivingScript:  Support community-based food programs that address food insecurity and that make nutritious food more accessible to everyone.
