Prescribing Connection: How Your Doctor Can Help You Find Community

Imagine going to your doctor and walking out with a prescription not for pills, but for people.
That’s the idea behind social prescribing, a growing practice where healthcare providers connect patients to community resources that support their emotional, social, and physical health.
Whether it’s a walking group, a support circle, or a community garden, social prescriptions recognize that wellness isn’t only about medical care, it’s also about belonging. I started a Walk with a Doc program right here in Columbus, Ohio! Feel free to reach out below for the details if you want to join. Its free and filled with awesome people who just take a walk with the doc! Most importantly, its completely accessible and you know you belong!

If you ask me, what makes the happiest place in the world well, the happiest place in the world, its that people have a space to belong! My sister friend and I paid good ole Epcot a visit and while I couldn't wait to meet Belle (because if you haven't notice we have quite a bit in common, wanting to live our best lives and loving a good book!), she was so excited about visiting "Morocco" (does it count for the country log?). We wore our ears and eased on down the shiny brick road, singing along to the sing alongs.
As your health is concerned, there are options to create belonging while working on your success. Group medical visits, peer support programs, and community health workers are already making this happen. And you don’t need to wait for your provider to bring it up. Talk about your social needs, and ask about resources that could help you feel more connected.
Your LivingScript: Make a short “Connection Rx” for yourself.
List:
1. One group or community you’d like to explore (e.g., a walking group, support circle, book club).
2. One person or provider you could ask for help finding resources.
3. One step you’ll take this week—like emailing a local organization, RSVPing to an event, or telling your doctor you want help with social support.

I offer group options to reclaim your health and transform your life alongside others with similar goals and we're starting in less than a week!
